Carbon-project restoration

Regenerating 1,100 hectares of degraded land for the carbon market.
With Future Climate Group, MORFO regenerates 1,100 hectares of degraded land in São Paulo, its first phase. The project is built for the carbon market: forecast what the land can produce, restore it with native species, and document the carbon toward certification.

- Amazon and Cerrado

- 1,100 ha (phase one)
- Status
- Planted, monitoring ongoing
Degraded former plantation land, with compacted soil and logging debris that make restoration harder, invasive grasses competing with young seedlings, and steep terrain that rules out some mechanised methods.

MORFO read the land and prepared the soil to the terrain, restored across the full area and enriched where needed, with more than 60 native species from the Amazon and Cerrado. Aerial seeding by drone deployed over 18,000 seed capsules where slopes allowed, and the species and planting design were aligned to the project's carbon curves for certification.

For a carbon developer, the value is forecasting credit output and reaching a project that funds itself. This case is that model at scale, on genuinely difficult ground.
